Mahinda not ready for honourable farewell

Mahinda not ready for honourable farewell Featured

Mahinda Rajapaksa had not requested president Maithripala Sirisena for the opportunity for an honourable farewell from politics following the parliamentary election, as reported in the media, says the ex-president’s spokesman Rohan Weliwita.

Weliwita has told BBC Sandeshaya that this was a falsehood intended at discouraging voters who would vote for Rajapaska.

Rajapaksa will definitely win and become the prime minister, he has said.

Reliable sources told Sri Lanka Mirror that former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has asked that if the UPFA wins at least one seat majority at the polls, his elder brother be made the premier for a few months to pave the way for him to make a honourable farewell to politics.

However, president Sirisena has not made a favourable response to the request.
