Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', IUSF convener - Najith Indika says that the course fees of the Open University were increased from 2013 in an arbitrary manner and many students were compelled to drop from the courses after being unable to pay the course fees.
The students resorted to a 'Sathyagraha' after talks with officials ended in stalemate, he added.
"During talks with officials of the University Grants Commission, officials formally pledged to decrease the fees. Accordingly, we decided to end the 'Sathyagraha', he said.
Noting that the IUSF would continue to safeguard free education, Najith Indika said that this was a victory secured after a hard and long struggle.
