Probe into vehicle emission testing certificate monopoly

Probe into vehicle emission testing certificate monopoly Featured

A team of economists is to investigate the monopoly given by the previous Rajapaksa regime to W.K. Wegapitiya’s Laugfs Gas Holdings and Akbar Brothers to issue vehicle emission testing certificates.

That is because these private sector institutions are getting a massive income which should be the due right of the state.

The state gets only 10 pc, while these two companies receive the remaining 90 pc, from each certificate.

According 2014 statistics of the Motor Traffic Department, Sri Lanka has more than six million roadworthy vehicles.

The certificates are issued by Laugfs Eco and Clean Eco.
