Rajapaksas protected drug kingpin!

Rajapaksas protected drug kingpin! Featured

A key international drug racketeer Mohamed Mubarak Mohamed Mujaid had received protection from top persons in the previous Rajapaksa regime, it has been revealed.

Local anti-narcotic officials, with permission from the defence ministry, together with international drug intelligence units, started going after him as early as 2002.

This man, who lives a top life in Malaysia, was a topic at the weekly Security Council meetings at the time.

Well knowing that Mujaid was a target by authorities, former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has maintained a close connection with him.

Gotabhhaya and his wife Anoma were the chief guests at the Muhurath festival of ‘Selvam’, a film produced by Mujaid in 2011.

His sister married to sentenced drug racketeer

Shiyam, a drug racketeer sentenced to death, is married to Mujaid’s sister.

A few years ago, media reported that Shiyam was to be given a presidential pardon.

Other than Gotabhaya, Mujaid has had close ties with Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan and several others in the Rajapaksa government as well as artistes, while running a racket to distribute drugs to 15 countries, including Sri Lanka.

The Moratuwa University has recovered pictures of him in a laptop belonging to his local agent Ahmed Sabri Najumudeen, although his wife had tried to destroy it following his arrest.

The Malaysian police have received an international red notice for Mujaid’s arrest, Dinamina reports.
