Rs. 176 m loss to SLRC due to Mahinda’s ads Featured

The Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has incurred a loss of nearly Rs. 176 million due to having given improper privileges for the telecast of advertisements of Mahinda Rajapaksa during the presidential election campaign, the SLRC has found during an inquiry.

Payments promised for these advertisements had been unusually lower than those of other candidates at the election, and not even those payments had been met.

Also, the SLRC had to carry trailors for Rajapaksa’s advertisements at additional costs.

These advertisements had been telecast under the file names of the SLFP, UDA and the SLRC, for which several top officials including former director general Chandrapala Liyanage had been involved.

Based on these findings, a complaint has already been lodged with the bribery commission.

However, no internal inquiry is likely to take place despite a request for same, Ravaya reports.
