Mr. Deshapriya has said that he trusts that police protection has already been granted to political party leaders, former ministers, MPs and provincial councillors contesting the General election.

The commissioner has also sent a list of candidates who require police protection.

Should a candidate request for police protection at a given point in time, the request should be considered, he adds.
