In a statement, Senasinghe says,
Mahinda Rajapaksa has once again demonstrated that tolerance of dissenting politics is not his legacy. The recent incident happened in this regard is the assault on an ordinary citizen at a public rally held in Akuressa. Assaulting an unarmed citizen by a former President enjoying the privileges of protection of a security squad is not only a slur on morality but also a violation of the law of the country. Mahinda Rajapaksa has demeaned to the level of assaulting his own party members because of his insatiable greed for power.
The accusations of attacks on people abductions and murder during the era of white van culture created with the use of state power have now been proved to be correct. Recently there were reports about an attack on the General Secretary of the UPFA. Today the UPFA candidates accuse their fellow candidates loyal to Mahinda Rajapaksa that they are causing harassment to the candidates loyal to the President Maithripala Sirisena. There are several statements reported in the media referring to a large number of UPFA candidates intimidating and threatening people against marking preferences to rival candidates.
A person elected as a President of the country should act in a manner of taking responsibility to serve the entire population of the country. However, past deeds of Mahinda Rajapaksa have proven that during his tenure of office he had acted in sectarian manner.
Mahinda Rajapaksa who faced allegations of attacking journalists for expressing a dissenting voice, setting fire on media institutions and attacking rival politicians today has resorted to assaulting his own party members which is a clear indication of the creation of a frenzy maniac.
When in power Mahinda Rajapaksa acted in a frenzy manner and now when he is out of power and also in the face of further losing power he has demonstrated his true colours of a power hungry lunatic.
Those stooges of Mahinda Rajapaksa who make vituperative statements by holding news conferences and charging that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s life is in danger should understand that because of Mahinda Rajapaksa even his own party members’ lives are in danger. It is now clear that whenever Mahinda Rajapaksa walks alongside people at public rallies, actual threat to life is on the people and not on Mahinda Rajapaksa.
