Issuing a statement Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya has informed that all campaign activities relevant to the general election should be abandoned 48 prior to the election date, 17 August 2015.

Accordingly election campaigns should be stopped as at 12.00 pm of 14 August,2015.

Thus a cooling period has been provided for the public to properly analyse the available information and make a decision.

During the particular period  no campaigning can be carried out either to promote or tarnish the image of a candidate contesting independently or allied to a political party.

However, since the final election rallies of the political parties and independent groups are being held on August 14, 2015 , the details of the particular proceedings can be published on 15 August, 2015.

The Election Commissioner further requests not to publish/broadcast any material including advertisements, political programmes, documents which give publicity to a particular candidate during  15,16 August and until 6.00 pm on 17 August.
