Language LAB opened in Akuressa

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Indian High Commissioner Y.K. Sinha together opened one of nine language labs donated by the Government on India in Akuressa, Matara on July 10.

This Lab is part of the “Three-tier English Language Training System” signed between the Governments of Sri Lanka and India to help enhance English language teaching facilities and infrastructure, especially for training English teachers.

As part of the project the Government of India will provide 30 computer units and other amenities required for the efficient functioning of each language lab, while the intended direct beneficiaries will consist of English teachers in the respective districts and their students as indirect beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event Minister Samaraweera recognized the contributions made by the Indian people especially in the form of development assistance valued at over USD 1.5 Billion in sectors such as transport, health and especially education.
