Lanka in trouble over inclusion of Fijians

Lanka in trouble over inclusion of Fijians Featured

Sri Lanka stands accused of having violated international rugby regulations by including to Fijians to the national team for the ARFU rugby tournament in 2014.

The sports ministry has received a complaint seeking an investigation.

Fijians Emori Waqavulagi and N. Joseph had been given Sri Lankan citizenship and they played in the game at Colombo Race Course grounds on May 17 last year.

However, according to international rugby regulations, a foreign player could be given citizenship only if he has already played for the new country for three years, and that his father or grandfather should be born in that country.

They had played against the Philippines and Hong Kong, which had planned to complain against them, had they been beaten by Sri Lanka, says the complaint to the sports ministry.
