Agreement signed for new front

The UNP, JHU and the SLFP breakaway group signed an agreement today to contest the upcoming general election under an alliance named the United National Front for Good Governance.

The signing ceremony took place a short while ago at Temple Trees.

Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former MP Athuraliye Rathana Thera, minister Patali Champika Gunawardena, UNP general secretary Kabir Hashim and minister M.K.D.S. Gunawardena were among those present.

Brother of president’s secretary from new front

Meanwhile, Dr. Karunaratne Pallewatte, brother of secretary to the president P.B. Abeykoon, has decided to contest the election on the ticket of this new alliance.

It will contest the election under the UNP’s ‘elephant’ symbol.
