The proposal was approved at a special UNP convention held at the Campbell Park, Colombo.

Addressing the convention, UNP leader - Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that biggest battle was won by President Maithripala Sirisena and the UNP will complete the utter defeat of the Rajapaksa regime by contesting the General election.

He added that all should unite with the UNP and form the 'United National Front for Good Governance' to defeat the threat posed at the General election.
