The decision is being reached after Susil Premajayantha stated that it had been decided to grant UPFA nominations to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Rajapaksa loyalists wield majority power in the executive committee of the UPFA.
Bigwigs of the Maithri faction have also planned to seek legal redress to prevent the UPFA from contesting the upcoming General election, reports add.
With the SLFP planning to contest under the 'hand' symbol, SLFPers who had earlier decided to crossover had changed their mind, reports further say.
Meanwhile, 'Sri Lanka Mirror' learns that there are attempts to remove Anura Priyadarshana Yapa from his post as General Secretary of the SLFP.
Maithripala Sirisena is to take this decision according to powers vested in him as the party leader by the SLFP constitution.
The removal is to take place before informing the Elections commissioner that the SLFP is planning to contest the General election.
At the moment, representatives of Maithripala Sirisena have commenced discussions with the Elections commissioner on this regard, reports add.
