Speaking to 'Sri Lanka Mirror', Ms. Abeywickrema said that she is to assume duties today and would meet with staff at the office.
Before going to the 'Sunday Leader' office, she has paid homage at the grave of her late colleague and the founder editor of 'Sunday Leader' - Lasantha Wickremetunga.
The 'Sunday Leader' and 'Irudina' newspapers of Leader Publications had faced closure following a downfall that had taken place after the Rajapaksa regime was toppled.
However, a new team had come forward to revive the newspaper and to publish them in a novel manner. The team is also planning to unveil a daily newspaper soon, reports say.
Mandana will also work as the acting Editor of the 'Irudina' newspaper with Ravi Rathnavel as the Deputy Editor.
Mandana Ismail Abeywickrema is one of the senior journalists who had continually faced danger in the last few years. On September 2013, an armed group barged into her home, searching for a dossier and holding her family at knifepoint. One intruder was killed during crossfire with the police.
Following the incident, Mandana and her family left the country before returning last year and contributing much to the attempt made to topple the Rajapaksa regime.
