BJP stands for Bodu Jana Peramuna, which will replace the name 'Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha'.

 

After considering a request to change the party name from 'Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha', the elections commissioner agreed to comply, said the party Gen. Secretary - Dr. Nath Amarakoon.

 

The symbol of the BJP Sri Lanka is to be the fountain pen, the same as that of 'Eksath Lanka Maha Sabha'.

 

At the present, there are 64 registered political parties in Sri Lanka and the elections commission has decided not to register new parties.

 

Accordingly, the commission allows registered parties to change their name as above after accepting amendments to the party constitution and office bearers.
