‘No helicopter given to Mahinda’

Mahinda Rajapaksa has been given 105 policemen and 108 personnel of the armed forces for his protection, but they are not being given adequate facilities, says media coordinator of the former president Rohan Weliwita.

Weliwita says in a statement that they have been provided with three vehicles from the police department.

There is no office space available for them, while accommodation has been given in a building with minimum facilities.

The department has withdrawn 17 vehicles and telephone facilities.

For the military personnel, no vehicle or office facilities given, only accommodation is provided.

The presidential secretariat has given three VIP vehicles and three backup vehicles.

Rajapaksa is using vehicles obtained personally and those obtained on rent, he says.

Also, ex-president has not been given helicopters for his use, the statement adds.
