He was speaking at the unveiling of the pinnacle of stupa at historic Muhudu Maha Vihara in Potuvil yesterday (20).
All should unite to build a country that has won peace and reconciliation to allow every community and religious faith to live in freedom, he said.
Buddhist monks and other religious clergy should take the lead in that exercise, noted the president, adding that all communities need to join hands in peace and brotherhood for the country’s future.
President Sirisena added the eastern province, where Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities live in harmony portrays peace, unity and reconciliation, and is an example to other parts of the country.
