Corruption probe against ex-CJ

Corruption probe against ex-CJ Featured

The bribery commission has decided to conduct an investigation into allegations of corruption and fraud leveled against former chief justice Mohan Peiris, the Supreme Court has been told.

The state had suffered a loss of Rs. 619 million due to an order to the Customs by Peiris during the period he was the attorney general, says a petition moved by lawyer Nagananda Kodituwakku, which seeks an investigation.

The petitioner told the court that he did not intend to proceed with the petition as the bribery commission has already decided to investigate Peiris.

His request for the withdrawal of the petition will be taken up on July 27.

Later, speaking to the media, the lawyer said he would petition courts again if the bribery commission fails to hold an investigation as promised, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
