Former minister of Economic Development - Basil Rajapaksa has been granted bail by the Colombo High Court today (June 15).
Taking up the case, High Court Judge Sarojini Kusala Weerawardena also granted bail to former Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Nihal Jayatilaka, former Director General of the Divineguma Department, R.R.K. Ranawaka and Divi Neguma Regional Director Bandula Thilakasiri.
Basil Rajapaksa and the three other officials were arrested on April 22 on charges of misappropriation of Divi Neguma funds.
The suspects were released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and four personal bails of Rs. 1 million each.
Meanwhile, Southern Provincial Council Minister D.V. Upul was released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and two sureties of Rs. 1 million each by Colombo Fort Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya today.
The remanded Provincial Councillor was produced before the court today on charges of threatening police officers of the FCID.
