Expectant mothers advised to undergo HIV tests

Expectant mothers advised to undergo HIV tests Featured

The National STD and AIDS Prevention Unit requests expectant mothers to undergo HIV tests.

The Unit says 58 AIDS patients and seven deaths have been reported so far this year.

The highest prevalence of AIDS is in the western province, and mostly in Colombo and Gampaha districts, recent surveys point out.

Since Sri Lanka reported its first AIDS patient in 1989, a total of 2,137 persons, including 73 children, have been diagnosed as having AIDS.
Of them, 347, including two children, have died.
