Anti-LTTE channel :
According to Defence ministry sources, Kuganathan had commenced a satellite TV network named Tamil Television Network (TTN) in 2002, which was telecast in Europe.
However, Kuganathan was ousted from TTN in 2006 after it was taken over by a pro-LTTE group channel.
Turning this to their advantage, the military intelligence unit brought Kuganathan onboard to launch DAN TV, which bore an anti-LTTE stance. The channel was launched in Europe on 2007.
Kuganathan, together with the military intelligence unit, initiated a large number of anti-LTTE programmes after arriving in Sri Lanka on 2007.
The broadcasting was done through a permit of a private TV station and the payment was done by the then government.
Devananda's brother too involved
During this time, former minister Douglas Devananda had used his political power to get involved with the private TV channel which assisted Kuganathan and to open an anti-LTTE cable TV channel in Jaffna under his brother- Dayananda's name.
Meanwhile, the military intelligence unit had continued to back Kuganathan.
Fmr. Intel chief
Meanwhile, the FCID has also commenced investigations against several officers of the intelligence unit including former Intelligence Chief, Kapila Gamini Hendawitharana, under the charge of making money through illegal means.
