Meanwhile, a special meeting has also been convened on June 03 to approve the names of three civil representatives who are to be appointed to the Constitutional Council.

The presidential approval has been granted to the names of Sarvodaya founder - Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne, Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy and former Appeal Court judge - A.W.A. Salam as civil representatives.

Mayadunne slashed

Initially, former Auditor General S. Mayadunne was proposed as one of the civil representatives. However, the finalised list had included the name of Dr. A.T. Ariyaratne instead.

Mayadunne was proposed by the UNP. Although the Opposition had initially agreed, they had later changed their mind.
