Financial fraud charges against Lalith, Bandula

Financial fraud charges against Lalith, Bandula Featured

Several serious financial frauds that had taken place at the Chinese-donated BMICH during the previous Rajapaksa regime have come to light.

Based on a complaint to BMICH’s re-appointed chairperson Chandrika Kumaratunga, the FCID is to question the managing director at the time Bandula Ekanayake and former secretary to the president Lalith Weeratunga.

She was expelled from the chair of the BMICH directors soon after Mahinda Rajapaksa was elected president in 2005.

At the time, the institution had a Rs. 200 million fixed deposit.

After Maithripala Sirisena was elected president, she was reappointed to the position.

However, the money in the FD has declined to Rs. 24 m by then.
