A tense situation prevailed at the Jaffna District Court premises this morning (20) when a group of protesters stoned the Court building, calling for justice over the recent rape and killing of a schoolgirl in Punguditivu.
Two police officers were injured while two Prisons vehicles were damaged in the incident.

The protestors were calling for stern punishment against the rape suspects.

Police fired tear gas to disperse the angry protestors.

Pics of the incident are shown below.

Yesterday, businessmen in Jaffna held a Hartal as a mark of protest against the rape and murder.

The victim,  as S Vithiya, is an 18 year old A/L student of the Pungudutivu Maha Vidyalayam and her body was found last week, inside a dilapidated house in Pungudutivu with her hands and legs tied to logs.
