The present Diyawadana Nilame - Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara, former Diyawadana Nilame - Neranjan Priyadarshana Dullewa Wijeratna and a present Basnayake Nilame - Gayan Heenkenda are the candidates.

The term of office of the present Diyawadana Nilame ends on July 04.

A Diyawadana Nilame is elected once in 10 years.

Nearly 300 delegates including the two Mahanayake Theras, Chief Prelates, Basnayake Nilames and Divisional Secretaries are eligible to cast their votes at the election for a new Diyawadena Nilame. The election held under the supervision of the Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs.
