The Moratuwa University has handed over to highways minister Eran Wickremaratne its investigation reports into alleged irregularities in the construction of expressways, but no follow up action has been taken so far.

A team led by Professor Asoka Perera prepared the report.

Top officials of the Road Development Authority who had given information for the report are worried as to why the report is being kept a secret.

Prof. Perera said he had fulfilled the job given to him, and that he has no permission to reveal anything to the media.

According to revelations, the Rs. 235 billion cost for the 157 km southern expressway is calculated at Rs. 1.5 b per km.

For the 26 km long Colombo-Katunayake expressway the cost is Rs. 47 b, or Rs. 1.8 b per km.

However, World Bank reports say the average cost of construction of expressways is Sri Lanka should be Rs. 130 million (one million USD).

A top official of the RDA said that going by the information given by his institution, the report should contain financial irregularities of several former and serving ministers, Randiva reports.
