Public blamed for the corrupt being in parliament

Public blamed for the corrupt being in parliament Featured

Ven. Maduluwawe Sobhitha Thera says it is the responsibility of the public not to elect the corrupt, frauds and drug traffickers to parliament once again.

The Thera says the people are to be blamed for having sent such wrongdoers to the supreme place of parliament.

They should know whom to be chosen, and whom to be rejected, he said.

Sobhitha Thera has told BBC Sandeshaya that president Maithripala Sirisena should introduce a new electoral system as promised.

He said so when asked about his views regarding the JVP’s claim that the president has said the next election would be held under the existing electoral system.

Hope not fulfilled yet

It was very unfortunate that no arrest had so far been made in connection with the assault on Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri at a May Day rally in Kirulapone in support of former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Thieves, robbers, frauds, drug traffickers, ethnol racketeers are roaming freely, and we should admit that the people’s hope for a just society is yet to be fulfilled.

Sobhitha Thera added that he saw nothing wrong in president Sirisena having a cordial meeting with his predecessor, as no decision affecting the country had been taken there.
