The minister says that the future of the of the country's children should be built as Sri Lankans, setting aside all racial and religious differences aside.
The minister was speaking this during a function which gave away appointment letters to 1688 teaching assistants in Tamil medium schools in the Estate areas.
In order to fill the shortage of Tamil medium teachers in estate sector schools, the government decided to recruit suitable candidates who are permanent residents of estate areas as Teacher Assistants through a competitive examination carried out by the Examinations Department.
The second batch will receive their appointment letters within the next two weeks and with these appointments, the number of Teacher Assistant recruits will reach 3,000.
