3 with Lankan origin to contest in UK general election Featured

Three individuals with Sri Lankan origin are to contest in the UK general election which is schedule do be held on 07 May.

Chamila Fernando who failed to secure the candidacy to contest for the slot of London Mayor from the Liberal Democratic Party, will be contesting the Cambridge constituency from the Conservative Party, while Ranil Jayawardena will contest for the North East Hampshire constituency.

Uma Kumaran, who has a Tamil origin and a graduate of political science from Queen Mary University in London, is to contest for the Harrow East constituency from the Labour Party. She has served for a Tamil newspaper based in London named 'Oru' as a journalist.

Chamila Fernando is a Barrister by profession and her father, who is also an Attorney at Low , has contested twice in general elections.

Ranil Jayawardena contesting for North East Hampshire has previously served as an urban council member.
