Most businessmen in Colombo are non-Buddhists, but they venture into selling Vesak lanterns etc. because of profitability.

They are of the view that their profits could be doubled or trebled if they sell Chinese lanterns, which are more attractive than the local ones.

Sociologists warn however, that these Chinese products have adversely affected the local products.
