MR to reconsider stance

The passing of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution has put a damper on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's hopes of contesting at another Presidential election.

The 19th Amendment prevents any person who has held the office of the President for two terms to contest for the post again.

Rajapaksa is now left with only one alternative, which is to contest at the next general election.

However, the former President has to now reconsider his position given that the SLFP and members of the UPFA who supported him voted in favor of the 19th Amendment.
