The Action Committee for Media Freedom today (29) handed over a letter to the IGP, urging him to expedite investigations into the murder of journalist Dharmaratnam Sivaram in Colombo around 10 years ago.

The letter also asks about the progress into investigations into the killings of Lasantha Wickrematunga, Nimarajan Mailvaganam and other journalists and the disappearance of Prageeth Ekneligoda, said committee convener Freddie Gamage.

IGP N.K. Illangakoon replied that probes into Wickrematunga and Ekneligoda have resumed.

But, he did not mention the status of the investigations into the killings of Sivaram and Mailvaganam, Gamage said.

The committee also said the attention of the police chief was drawn to the recent intimidation of Jaffna journalists by the police and the armed forces.

Gamage added the IGP said he was unaware of some of these instances, and requested for details, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
