MPs push to nullify FCID gazette

MPs push to nullify FCID gazette Featured

A group of UPFA MPs are pushing the President to nullify the Gazette notification which established the special police unit appointed to investigate large scale financial crimes and frauds.

Accordingly, the President has informed the MPs that the gazette enforcing the Financial Crime Investigation Division (FCID) would be nullified if it is illegal.

The MPs had met the President at the Parliament complex yesterday (28). They had said that a sub committee led by the Prime minister was also appointed according to this gazette notification.

The gazette notification was issued on February 15 after receiving cabinet approval on Jan. 21.

The police unit is to investigate large scale financial crimes and frauds as the government vowed to probe into the massive corruption and frauds that had allegedly taken place during the previous regime.

Meanwhile, speaking in Parliament yesterday (28), Prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that no matter how much such fraudulent individuals opposed to this, a British style investigation bureau to probe into these financial crimes and frauds would be established within this year.
