The committee appointed to discuss the issue over the composition of the Constitutional Council proposed in the 19th Amendment to the Constitution has failed to reach a consensus even after a lengthy meeting last evening. The committee is to meet today to reach a final settlement.
The committee includes Ajith P. Perera, Rauf Hakeem, Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha, M.A. Sumanthiran, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Faizer Mustapha.
The opposition has proposed the appointment of parliamentarians to the Constitutional Council while the 19th Amendment has proposed the inclusion of intellectuals in the Council.
