Suporters of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa displayed a distored national flag during their protest in Colombo yesterday (23) against the bribery commission’s summons to the former defnece secretary.

The demonstration took place in violation of a court order that banned processions and gatherings in front of the commission.

As per constitutional provisions, the national flag should have orange and green stripes on its left side to represent the Tamil and Muslim communities and to show national unity.

However, the ‘Sinhale Kodiya’ displayed during recent protests does not have these two stripes.

This flag was raised by Swarna Hansa Foundation on March 02 at Magul Maduwa in Sri Dalada Maligawa.

No citizen has the right to distort the national flag or the national anthem, and it is a punishable offence.

With his lawyers, Gotabhaya was yesterday at the bribery commission, which issued him summons to give a statement with regard to irregularities in Mihin Lanka, of which he was the chairman in 2007.
