Time's 100 most influential people revealed

TIME magazine has released their list of the 100 Most Influential People that shaped this past year and some people featured in the magazine may surprise you.

Popular names on the list include Kanye West, Kim Kardashian and Bradley Cooper. TIME found these celebrities have most impacted this past year, along with other list makers, such as President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Jeb Bush, Pope Francis, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Malala Yousafzai.

TIME editor Nancy Gibbs said “when we were debating whom to approach to write for this issue, we looked for people who could speak to their subject’s influence in all its dimensions.”

Other recognizable names from the list include Kevin Hart, Emma Watson, Tim Cook, Chris Pratt, Reese Witherspoon, Tim McGraw, Lorne Michaels, Bjork and director Lee Daniels.

Another interesting part of the issue is the famous guest contributors who wrote profiles on the people who made the list. For example, Taylor Swift wrote about Barefoot Contessa, Ina Garten, SpaceX founder, Elon Musk, wrote about Kanye West, Tilda Swinton wrote about Amy Schumer and Martha Stewart took on Kim Kardashian.

“Kim comes across as an enviable big sister in a clan where everyone seems to love one another,” Stewart wrote in the magazine.

But there are a lot of other names on the list that you may not know from pop culture and can learn about from the issue.

“Every year we hope the TIME 100 will introduce you to influential people you might not have met before and encourage you to find out more about them,” said Gibbs.

There are five different magazine covers that feature Kanye West, Bradley Cooper, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, ballet dancer Misty Copeland and news anchor from Univision Jorge Ramos.  The list is broken up into five categories which is Titans, Pioneers, Artists, Leaders and Icons. The issue hits newsstand on Friday.
