Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa has no intention at all of fielding a group outside the UPFA at the upcoming general election, and his aim is to ensure that a majority of MPs loyal to him are elected to parliament, said a SLFP MP who visited him at his Carlton home in Tangalle yesterday (16).

He has approved of the MPs loyal to him contesting on a different party if they are not given nominations, and promised them financial backing without supporting publicly, the MP told Sri Lanka Mirror.

The ex-president has told his supporters that his sole objective was to take over power of the SLFP after the general election, said the MP.
