President Maithripala Sirisena may face international condemnation if the holding of parliamentary elections and the establishment of a new government are delayed, a Colombo based senior foreign diplomat told ‘Sri Lanka Mirror’.

That is because the president has given a promise to world leaders that an independent inquiry into war crimes charges would be held under a new government and a report submitted to the UNHRC session in Geneva in September, he said.

At present, the international community is full of praise for Mr. Sirisena, said the diplomat.

When contacted, a senior official of the prime minister’s office said the president gave an undertaking recently that parliament would be dissolved in the first week of May.
