The SLFP will table in parliament the 20th amendment that paves the way for the increasing of the number of MPs to 250, says rural economy minister S.B. Dissanayake.

He has told Hiru FM that his party has agreed to bring in the 20th amendment at the same time the 19th amendment to curtail powers of the executive presidency is submitted and debated.

The SLFP parliamentary group has agreed to introduce a new electoral system under which 165 seats are appointed under the first-past-the-post system, 60 under the proportional representation system and 25 on the national list, he said, adding that proposal was discussed with the elections commissioner recently.
