Parents file HR case against Visakha Vidyalaya principal Featured

Parents of a physically challenged student at Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo have lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka after the school principal allegedly ignored the special needs of the student.

The girl has difficulty walking due to a birth defect and so far, her father had carried her to the classroom.

However, the girl, who is in Grade 08 now, has been selected to a classroom located in the 3rd floor of a school building.

The parents have requested the principal to shift the classroom of the girl to the ground floor but the request has gone unheeded.

The Principal has also banned the father from entering the school with the girl.

Under this backdrop, the girl has missed three months of schooling in the first term of this school year.

The case is to be taken up on April 21.

Attempts to contact the Visakha Vidyalaya principal on this regard, were unsuccessful.
