The premises in Weeraketiya include the graves of Gotabaya Rajapaksa's parents.
The corporation fell under the Defence and Urban Development ministry.
The project, named 'Weeraketiya Project' was initiated on Feb. 17, 2014.
The museum was opened on Nov. 06, 2014, which marked the 47th commemoration of DA Rajapaksa, the father of Gotabaya, Basil and Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Expenses of the museum, which was built using labour of the Navy, have been accounted by the Land Reclamation & Development Corporation as follows :

Certain additional aspects of the projects are as follows :

a) Ornamental fish for pond Rs. 1,000,000
b) Artwork around the pond - Rs. 6,288,800

a) 09 bronze lotus flowers priced at Rs. 275,000 each - Rs. 3,049,200 (inclusive of tax)
b) Purchase and installation of two crystals - Rs. 9,240,822
03.
Purchase of 33 solar powered lamps and 4 electric fans - Rs. 5,372,075
04.
15,000 9x4 square charnockite stones brought unpaid from UDA - Rs. 4,125,000
The expenses for crystals and pending payments to the UDA for cut stones are not included in the Corporation's accounts.
Even though these are included, the total cost exceeds Rs. 75 million, even without the inclusion of Navy labour costs.
