JVP leader Anura Kumara Disanayake said they have emphasized at the NEC, the need of taking steps to set up individual commissions and implementing the proposed constitutional reforms.
"The JVP took part in the NEC based on several facts. In the NEC we question what duties it has been given. And it has been given the responsiblities of implementing the 19th constitutional amendment, abolishing the executive presidency, setting up independent commissions and proposing a proper electoral system," Dissanayake said.
Pointing out that an agreement has been reached between them and the President and Prime Minister to achieve these goals, Dissanayake says the JVP considers it as its duty, to remain in the NEC influencing the government to bring in these changes.
JVP had previously claimed it would consider their future participation in the NEC taking in to account the failure of the government to implement its promises during the allocated time period.
