Should correct mistakes – Mahinda Featured

Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa says the mistakes that had led to his defeat at the presidential election should be corrected.

That would be done in consideration of the views expressed by various persons, he said.

While participating in a function at Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita, he was responding to a question by BBC Sandeshaya regarding allegations that his brother Basil was a reason for his defeat.

Basil will return, he said, of his brother who is wanted for interrogation in connection with a corruption allegation.

Judiciary independent to certain extent

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s rejection today of a fundamental rights petition filed against him and several others, he said his lawyers had handled the case efficiently.

When pointed out that the ruling shows the independence of the judiciary, he said that that independence was at a certain, high level.

The constitution makes it clear that a president cannot be taken to court over his action, he added.
