Noting that although she does not blame Nimal Siripala de Silva at this moment, Upeksha says she feels that Gunewardena possesses all qualifications necessary for the post and that he is a conspicuous character in the present political backdrop.

Although certain groups are attempting to bring back former President Mahinda Rajapaksa into politics, some are doing it for their own gain while some merely want to ensure a better place for Mr. Rajapaksa, she adds.

Noting that she appreciates the policies of President Maithripala Sirisena, Upeksha says that she would support the good being done by the present government.

Upon being asked whether she would contest the upcoming election, Upeksha said that no firm decision has been taken on this regard.
