SLFP trying to build image with the Muslims

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is to commence a programme to regain the support of the Muslim community to the party and is to hold a special round of discussions under Minister A.H.M. Fowzie's leadership with Muslim organizations in the country.

According to sources the first meeting is scheduled to be held on March 28 in Colombo.

During the recently held Presidential elections, a majority of the Muslim community turned away from former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the SLFP for allegedly assisting anti-Muslim organizations.

However, since President Maithripala Sirisena currently holds the leadership in SLFP and discussions have been arranged between the party and the Muslim community to strengthen ties.

The President has tasked Fowzie to get back the support of the Muslim community to the SLFP.
