The government is to commence an international level probe on a former diplomat of the country.

Acting Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera has said that an international level investigation committee will be appointed to inquire into the allegations leveled against Sri Lanka's former ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga of supplying weapons to a terrorist group in the Ukraine.

Perera has said at a news conference that the committee to conduct the probe will be appointed after Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera returns to the country from China.

The Ukraine government had informed the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry that Weeratunga, who is a relative of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had supplied weapons to a terrorist group operating in Ukraine.
