The Supreme Court today (25) issued an interim order suspending the gazette notification that imposes a Rs 200 million excise tax on alcohol and beer manufacturers.

The court was taking up a petition filed by four alcohol and beer manufacturers.

The SC ordered the finance minister and other respondents to file objections, if any, on April 30.

The interim budget proposed the excise tax of Rs. 200 million, but the companies filed the petition alleging a violation of their fundamental rights.
