An unknown group has fled after gunning him down, police say.

Although Mendis was rushed to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital with grievous injuries, he had succumbed after being admitted.

Two others have also been hurt in the incident.

Speaking, police media spokesman - SSP Ruwan Gunasekara has said that the reason behind the murder is yet to be revealed.
