The party’s media secretary Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe is issuing a media statement declaring its stance on a Tamil version of the national anthem.
It alleges some were trying to create nonexistent problems over the debate on this issue.
The JHU says it condemns such views to gain petty political mileage and to damage reconciliation and unity.
It says that a change to the national anthem should require majority consent in parliament as well as a referendum.
The party recalls that as far back as 1951, Tamil people had sung the national anthem in their own language
