Right to information bill in April Featured

The National Executive Council has decided to discuss the right to information bill at the ministerial advisory committee and present it to parliament in the first week of April.

NEC member Anura Kumara Dissanayake said they also agreed to table the constitutional amendment to curtail powers of the executive presidency on March 24.

It was also decided to hold a special meeting, to be chaired by the president, to discuss measures to prevent Indian fishermen’s poaching in Sri Lankan waters.

Agreement was also reached on halting sand mining that is having an adverse impact on environment, said Mr. Dissanayake, adding that sand miners of Manampitiya would be given some sort of relief, BBC Sandeshaya reports.
